One of the most distinctive aircraft of World War II, the Messerschmitt Bf 110 was a twin-engined heavy fighter aircraft that was intended to be faster and better armed than any other fighter aircraft of the time, and it certainly proved to be a devastatingly effective machine during the early months of World War II. Although it suffered in the face of RAF pilots during the Battle of Britain, it continued to prove its qualities as a long-range fighter-bomber and ground support aircraft over large areas of Russia and in the Mediterranean and North Africa, where it served throughout the rest of the Second World War.
